Role Purpose

To provide expert advice and end-to-end case management for the organisation’s integrity and information frameworks. A primary focus of this role is ensuring privacy-by-design through the conduct of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), managing legislative compliance under the Information Privacy (IP) Act, and fostering an ethical culture.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Privacy & Information Compliance

  • Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA): Lead the research, analysis, and completion of PIAs for new projects, systems, and processes to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
  • Legislative Case Management: Manage applications and statutory obligations under the Information Privacy (IP) Act, Right to Information (RTI) Act, and Evidence Act.
  • Decision Making: Exercise delegated authority to make determinations on the release of information and privacy matters.
  • Privacy Complaints: Case manage privacy-related complaints and internal reviews, ensuring outcomes align with legislative requirements and best practices.

Integrity & Ethics

  • Policy Development: Draft and review policies, briefings, and reports regarding privacy, ethics, and information access for senior management.
  • Strategic Advice: Act as a subject matter expert, providing high-level advice to the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, and external stakeholders.

Education & Engagement

  • Training Delivery: Design and deliver contemporary training programs focused on privacy awareness, information security, and ethical standards.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build collaborative relationships across all departments to embed privacy and integrity considerations into daily operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Privacy Expertise: Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the Information Privacy Act (or similar legislation) and conducting Privacy Impact Assessments.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to research complex issues and provide independent, risk-based advice.
  • Ethical Judgement: A proven track record of handling highly sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion.
  • Communication: Superior written and verbal skills, with the ability to translate complex legislative requirements into clear, actionable advice.
  • Proactive Mindset: A self-motivated professional who seeks continuous improvement in governance processes.
